It is as though some mighty shaking up were in the offing, some re-ordering of lives that can only be possible when the Spirit is blowing.

Thank you for reading and commenting.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17169893443626130840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6624495780966204366.post-26591807815102167322008-10-22T19:49:00.000-04:002008-10-22T19:49:00.000-04:00One of the earliest lessons I learned after ordina...One of the earliest lessons I learned after ordination was that the ministry (including the liturgy) is the Lord's, and at best I could join myself to it and hope like hell that I do not get in the way. However, I am still learning that lesson. I find myself continually surprised at how much I am fed as a presider. It simply is not my work which matters. Even when I try to stress a certain point in a homily, or make a ritual simple and beautiful, I am inevitably reminded that the Spirit is free to communicate what is truly important.
Thank you for this beautiful reflection and reminder that we are not all on the same page when we come through the doors of the church. The Dread Pirate Robertshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06518396338614170187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6624495780966204366.post-9786124050628479342008-10-19T07:12:00.000-04:002008-10-19T07:12:00.000-04:00Sitting with my first cup of coffee on the Sunday ...Sitting with my first cup of coffee on the Sunday morning following a busy week, I have re-read each of your three messages. Yes, when I leave the breakfast table and the newspapers in a couple of hours (I hear the Sunday editions hitting the front steps right now), I will go in your company in search of something and someone that we all four of us expect to encounter.

Good company all around!Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17169893443626130840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6624495780966204366.post-89355200466732380762008-10-17T21:57:00.000-04:002008-10-17T21:57:00.000-04:00Donald, "Sometimes I go to Mass to be greeted and ...Donald,

"Sometimes I go to Mass to be greeted and welcomed. " This section resonated deep within me. I am known at my Church, recognized by many, hugged by some, greeted by many...with those nods you mentioned, an occasional word, or a long conversation over coffee. But, I also go to be greeted and welcomed by God. I go that hour early to sit with my friend whom i find waiting in the sunbeam, in the candle flame, in the smell of soup rising from the Welcome Table, in my heart that reaches out to the silence fully alive for the welcoming embrace of understanding and mutual joy at the enfolding.

Thanks for sharing this and sparking my own thinking.
